38th Macao International Music Festival grandly inaugurated
MACAU, September 30 - Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 38th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) will be inaugurated on 2 October at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre. Themed “Silk Resonances”, this edition of the Festival features 10 programmes presented by world-renowned musicians and emerging young talents, one music camp and 12 “Floating Notes Across the City” activities, offering a musical feast that promotes Chinese and Western civilisations this autumn.
Marking the 120th anniversary of Yue Opera, the production My Grand View Garden – Yue Opera by the Zhejiang Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe will be held on 2 and 3 October at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Led by first-class actress Chen Lijun, it allows the audiences to indulge themselves in an oneiric universe where traditional opera and modern aesthetics intertwine.
This edition of the Macao International Music Festival will present a series of magnificent musical pieces that blend the Chinese and Western civilisations. The year 2026 marks the China-Brazil Cultural Year. With the support by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Brazilian group Barbatuques presents the performance Brazilian Body Beats, in which it uses the bodies as instruments to present an inventive performance as well as improvisation and live interaction, on 6 October at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium.
The Macao International Music Festival is committed to providing a performance platform for local young musical talents. This year’s concert Bravo Macao! features young Macao pianist Chan Chon Teng and musicians of the Macao Orchestra, who will present a concert dedicated to the city, to be held on 31 October at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium.
Internationally acclaimed composer and conductor Tan Dun joins hands with the China National Symphony Orchestra and Chorus to present the concert Tan Dun Conducts Beethoven’s Ninth and Nine on 28 November at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, creating a dialogue across time and space between Beethoven’s classic Symphony No. 9 and Nine, a work inspired in ancient Eastern mythology. The concert Tan Dun Conducts Mozart and Beethoven will be held on 29 November at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, opening with Beethoven’s Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus. Maestro Tan Dun will collaborate with two emerging local string musicians, Nina Wong andYan Lok Hoi, to present Mozart’s Double Concerto for Violin and Viola.
